The Khmer in Van giao, Tinh bien, An giang

Van Giao is one of the poorest communes in Tinh bien district, An giang province. The rate of Khmer people here is 78% of the district population.
Before 1999, there were only 30 Khmer women working on traditional textile weaving in this area. Those women heritage the weaving and dyeing skills from their ancestors, but they did not teach younger generation so there were the danger of this tradition to be lost. Realizing this problem, in 1999, Care International cooperated with Craft Link in a project to revive the weaving tradition of the Khmer group and to help them earn more income from textile production. Many traditional patterns were revived and presented in new products. Craft Link has also helped this group in marketing their products all over the world.
